The 4th Olympic Sports Federations of Oceania (OSFO) Assembly got underway today in Fiji. The annual event is staged alongside the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) annual congress and gives sport and NOCs the opportunity to discuss issues relating to the development of sport in the region. The major focus this year was to review the South Pacific Games from last August in Samoa and to present a voice to the Pacific Games Council on improvements moving forward. Another focus was updating all delegates on programs like the Oceania Sport Education Program, Australian Sports Commission programs in the Pacific region, The Oceania Foundation and new developments in OceaniaSport.
Tomorrow will see a day of workshops and more opportunity for active discussion on how we can improve the delivery of sport to the Pacific region and how we can build sustainable infrastructures to ensure the level of performance continues to rise. One of the major focuses will be Talent ID and we have both Sport Fusion and Monash Uni here to demonstrate the testing equipment and to discuss how a talent program can fit into their development plans.
A big thank you to ONOC for welcoming sport to your forum and we look forward to working with you again in 2008.
